
HABITAT
The dual colored african spoonbill lives in Botswana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. They inhabit savannahs, marshes, lake shores, plains, water meadows, river banks, shallow inland water, and swamps.

DIET:
The african spoonbill diets mainly consists of fish but they also eat aquatic invertebrates. The african spoonbill feeds by fishing in shallow waters by swinging its bill from side to side which acts as a scythe.

BEHAVIOUR/APPEARANCE:
The usually silent african spoonbill is a shy and alert bird. When scared or alarmed it makes a sort of grunting sound.
An adult african spoonbill is about 90cm tall and its wing span is 365mm – 403mm long. At birth, an african spoonbill has a very short beak but as it grows older its bill shapes into a spoon.
CONSERVATION:
The african spoonbill is ranked least concern. The adult birds are not commonly preyed on but chicks and eggs are vulnerable to nest predators such as crows, vultures, snakes, and mammals.
